Alien Crop Ads; The Next Big Thing in Advertising
This ad for the adult website, MyPrivateDance.com is visible from the air by airline passengers as they approach Gatwick Airport in England. At first believed to be the work of aliens, it turns out to be a brilliant marketing idea from the folks at Sports Media Gaming, Ltd.

A district council spokewoman says the ad was placed in the field without permission and the council will take legal action if it isn’t removed. The aliens… er, I mean Sports Media Gaming, Ltd. says, “We’re not going to remove it at all.”
The Campaign to Protect Rural England is disgusted by the ad and a representative said, “It sets such a nasty precedent, using our landscapes just for advertisement.”
What an idiot. First of all, the ad is on private property and I’m pretty sure we can paint anything we want on our property and second, the land is obviously being used for farming and not just for advertising. Sheesh.
I wish I’d been the first to come up with the idea, but I’m not against borrowing it, so here’s my ad on the green of the 14th hole of a golf course as seen on approach to Orlando International Airport. I’ve already noticed a jump in traffic.

“First of all, the ad is on private property and I’m pretty sure we can paint anything we want on our propert” ?? This is about England, not USA. In England planning regulations are pretty fierce and can stop you doing almost anything even with your own property. They can certainly tell you what you can and cannot paint on anything that can be seen outdoors, and they can also control what use a piece of land is put to, ie whether it is for agriculture or advertising. In this country one cannot just put an ad where ever one wants.

Mike, you need to have your sarcasm detector checked. Seems like you may be a quart low on your sense of humor as well.
