Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill Because… Well, He’s an Idiot
President George Bush vetoed legislation to expand federally funded embryonic stem cell research today, even though more than 60% of American voters agree that the measure would combat many illnesses.

The White House says, “If this legislation became law, it would compel American taxpayers — for the first time in our history — to support the deliberate destruction of human embryos. The president has made it clear … that he will not allow the nation to cross this moral line.”
WTF? Abortion is legal, so doesn’t that mean that the government is already supporting the deliberate destruction of human embryos?
In addition to this second veto, Bush has issued an executive order to encourage scientists to work with the government to find new methods of obtaining stem cells without harming human embryos.
I have two questions for the president and I’ll make them simple so he can understand them. Did you even read the bill? If so, when you read the part where it says that scientists will only be permitted to use embryos left over from fertility treatments that would otherwise be discarded anyway, what the fuck did you think that meant?
Of course, when I think about it, maybe I’m expecting too much from a man who’s a member of a political party where only 30% believe in evolution, for Christ’s sake. <-- Pun alert.

Most people involved with making law don’t actually read the laws. They have people on their “team” whose job it is (among other things) to do all their reading for them. They don’t often consult with these team members though and most of these politicians’ actions are based on the buddy system. Scratch my back, I’ll scratch your back; and I’ll vote for that for a dollar; the whole quid pro quo thing.
The Bushies are correct on one thing: if this legislation became law, it would compel American taxpayers … to support the deliberate destruction of human embryos.
We shouldn’t pay for other people’s abortions and we shouldn’t subsidize corporations for research when there is already plenty of incentive to act without the subsidization. Public welfare shrinks but corporate welfare grows. All they have to do is to allow corporations to legally do the research. The “free market” will then take over. If they want to stay competitive, they’ll invest in research. If they don’t someone else will.
Governments should focus on regulating the market, not directing it. They shouldn’t give handouts, but should help people that want to help themselves and society as a whole.
Also we mustn’t forget that we have the world’s second largest prison population just waiting to be experimented on. It’s a biological harvest just waiting to be picked. And how about those embarrassing secret prisons? Sneak the ill-gotten prisoners out at the cellular level and nobody will be the wiser.

I really like your idea about conducting experiments on prisoners, Greg.

Mr. Bush is a total moron. That’s pretty obvious.
As far as the prison testing goes, I always believed that we should take the more hardened criminals and turn them loose over in Iraq. We would have to make sure they had plenty of Glocks though. Oh, and don’t forget the baggy jeans to hide the Glocks in.
Our prisons would be cleaner, and the hooligans in Baghdad have something else to do besides decapitate news reporters.

Using prisoners as human ginny pigs or sending them to Iraq - great stuff.
But, why stop there? Think about it, all those bodies just going to waste. I say, let’s harvest them and make some cool profit! And I’m not just talking about kidneys, livers and hearts. You know how the Chinese believe that eating tiger testicle can make you more potent - how about eating balls from a serial rapist? Skulls as romantic candleholders and/or funky USB hubs, biker jackets from the skin of real bikers (along with bad ass prison tats), you name it. And the best thing is, you can still sell them to pharmaceutical companies, and exploit the corpses after they die in some horribly painful experiment.

Some more excellent ideas, Main Editor. I especially like the biker’s jacket idea. Those things would sell like hotcakes.

Wow main Editor!!! so many good ideas, the biker jacket is definetly the best indeed. Even though, the USB hub sounds sexy too….
How about the dildo made out of rapist bones?
RapistBoner, for stiff competition….

Have you ever asked yourself about the research that’s been done up to this point to merit fetal stem cell research? There is NO conclusive evidence. The only conclusive evidence up to this point has been with ADULT stem cells. Care to sign up?

If conclusive evidence was needed before we tried anything new, we’d still be living in caves. There are reasons why scientists believe that embryonic stem cells are better than adult stem cells.
Just out of curiosity, but how would you propose that scientists go about producing conclusive evidence without doing the research first?

How can you people continually miss the point that the bill only authorized research on embryos that WOULD HAVE BEEN DISCARDED ANYWAY. I see, it’s fine for a bunch of embryos to cook in the hot sun in a bio-waste dumpster, but not to use them in research. Huh.
And it absolutely is a proper function of the government to fund basic research. It’s one of the few things that it should do, rather than legislating our morality and what we can put into our own bodies.
