Doctor Claims Girl Made Him do it
An 11-year old girl was inline skating near her house when 54 year old Dr. Alexander Dlugi startled her. When the girl attempted to get away from him, he nailed her from behind.

The doctor claims that while he was riding his bike on his neighborhood street in 2003, he came up behind then 11-year old Lauren Ellis inline skating. He shouted “watch out” and rang his bicycle bell which startled the girl and when she attempted to move out of his way, she accidentally moved left and directly into his path. The two collided and although the girl suffered only minor bruises, the doctor broke his collar bone when he tumbled from his bicycle.
Dlugi’s attorney, Thomas Jardim, says the doctor’s injury did not heal properly so he underwent surgery in 2004 and lost a considerable amount of time at work at the clinic that he owned. The doctor now has difficulty sleeping and has lost mobility in his right shoulder and can no longer enjoy sports like swimming, tennis and bicycling, which he used to excel at.
Just a personal interjection here, but as an avid cyclist and former racer I find it hard to believe that a man with a bell on his bicycle ever actually excelled at riding it.
The girl’s attorney, Joe Accardi, called the president of an accident-reconstruction firm, John Desch, as a witness and he concluded that the girl did nothing wrong, she simply moved the wrong way. Desch said, “She’s startled by the presence of the bicyclist. She takes evasive action to avoid an impending collision and moved further to the left. I don’t find any fault with her actions at all.”
Dlugi estimates that he was traveling at approximately 8 mph at the time of the collision. I’ve crashed on my bike at speeds in excess of 40 mph and when you’re wearing nothing but spandex, you usually don’t come out of those accidents unscathed, but when you fall off your bike at 8 mph and break your collarbone, you not only don’t excel at cycling, you suck at it.
Instead of suing, this scumbag should have paid the girl to keep quiet about the incident and made up some story about how he was riding at 65 mph when a young girl skated into his path and in an heroic attempt to avoid colliding with and injuring the girl, he crashed and although he suffered severe personal injuries, his selfless action probably saved the young girl’s life.
