Girl’s Intestines Sucked Out by Pool Pump
Six-year old Abigail Taylor is listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis after the suction from a pool pump drain at the Minneapolis Golf Club tore out part of her intestines.

A golf club official has expressed sympathy for the family but said he didn’t think there was anything wrong with the pool. Of course, after he made that statement, he referred all other questions to the club’s attorney.
I’ve heard of people getting their fingers and toes stuck in pool drains and ultimately drowning in some cases, but who knew the suction was strong enough to suck your insides out?

This sounds like a story in the Times a few years ago, it was a fictional piece. I think it was called guts. I didn’t think it could actually happen though!!

It’s been in the news everywhere. It’s not a hoax.

ICK!!! I heard that happened before back when my kids were littler. Was the pool actually being drained or something at that time when the guts got sucked out though? It couldn’t be that strong a pull when the pool is just sitting around, could it? ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is one worry I had pushed way out of my mind for the past couple years…oh well.

This is true, but also Chuck Palahiuk (author of Fight Club) had a similar piece in his book, Haunted. The short story was called “Guts”

WTF? These pools are supposed to have drains that have an anti vortex system. Bassiccly there are 2 linked drains so that is one clogs the pressure will go to the other just through a simple T-junction in the pipe. Also, the drain covers are required to be resistant to sucking people down. Thats why regular pool drains look like hub caps. You cannot get your foot around the whole thing at once. This must have been a really old pool in violation of a lot of building codes.
