New Sports Car Gets 150 mpg

This is the Tesla Roadster. It’s strikingly beautiful, extremely fast, sexy as Hell, and it’s… 100% electric.

Tesla

So, when I said it gets 150 mpg, I meant that the Tesla gets the equivalent of 150 mpg — when compared to a car that gets about 20 mpg at $3 per gallon — because the Tesla costs about $.02 per mile to run.

Okay, so it’s cheap to run and it looks great, but just how fast is fast? Well, the 0 ot 60 mph time is about 4 seconds, which means that you can outrun a 2007 Porsche 911 Carrera S (0 to 60 in 4.6 sec.) in a car that makes virtually no noise. The top speed of the Tesla is about 50 mph short of the Carrera’s 185 mph, but then again, how often can you drive 135 mph in the U.S.

The car has a range of approximately 200 miles per charge and is powered by 6,831 Li-ion batteries which take about 3.5 hours to fully charge and according to Tesla, will last over 100,000 miles.

A fully loaded Tesla will run you about $100,000, but when you consider what you’ll be saving in fuel costs with a car that requires nearly no maintenance other than tires, it really seems like a small price to pay for a sports car.
