Jews for Jesus; Isn’t that an Oxymoron?
I may have stumbled onto the most confused religious group on the planet and considering how confused Christians are that’s saying a lot, but yes gentle reader, I have found a group that is even more confused than the Christians. They call themselves Jews for Jesus. What the…?

Without going into a long theological discussion of the differences between Judaism and Christianity, we really only need to understand two facts to realize just how confused these folks are. First, Jesus was a Jew, although I’d swear most Christians think he was a white man. The second fact is that even though Jews believe in the man called Jesus they do not believe that he is or was the Messiah. The primary reasons are that he did not fulfill the Messianic prophecies — namely bringing peace to the world — and he wasn’t a descendant of King David.
So, now a group of Jews called Jews for Jesus are sending missionaries to all the places in the world inhabited by Jews and trying to convert them to Christianity. Rumor has it that the organization is funded largely by the Baptists. D’oh!

Seen this group for a long time and have had much fun at their expense. One JfJ member spoke at Sarah Palin’s church (last summer I believe). I’m not sure if they’re confused, or just trying to hang onto the Jewish cultural thing while being Christians at heart.

Not sure why this blog popped up on my Google Alerts today, since you wrote this so long ago. Ah, google…
But we are Jews, born and bred, and found eternal life in the Messiah of Israel. He as you rightly point out, is a Jew, and according to both geneaologies (one of his mother and the other his earthly father) is a descendant of King David. But beyond that one fact, Y’shua extends forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe. Which is pretty radical and wonderful.

Aren’t there two different types of Jews? Ones who believe Jesus was the Messiah, and ones who don’t? Perhaps before accusing people of being confused, you should study up.

Melissa - sorry to disappoint but there are not two types of Jews. According to Judaism, we are still waiting for the messiah. Christians believe the Messiah has already come and Jesus was it. Also Christians believe in a whole other text - The New Testament. Jews only follow the Old Testament. I wholeheartedly believe there should be the right to practice whatever faith a person desires, however, Jews for Jesus just doesn’t make sense. People are either Jews or Christians - you can’t be both. How is that possible when the major tenets are opposed?
