I was watching TV one night back in May and saw a gum commercial that made me say, WTF? I actually said that, you can ask my wife. Since we have a DVR cable box I rewound the commercial and watched it again, — this time with my wife for verification — and sure enough, we both saw the same thing. The Eclipse Fusion gum commercial we’d just watched had an obvious lesbian reference at the end.

After we finished laughing, we both said, almost at the same time, “Wait till the fundies see this one.” To make sure that everyone else would too, I recorded it and put it up on YouTube in anticipation of the expected response and sure enough, as we predicted, they did see it and they did have the expected response. The right wing Christian uproar has resulted in the American Decency Association asking Christians to boycott Eclipse gum as well as all other Wrigley products.

ADA president Bill Johnson says, “It has strong sexual allusions and ultimately leads to a clear picture that is demonstrating lesbianism.” He went on to say that the commercial is a, “blatant advertisement lifting up lesbianism” that goes “so strongly against the standard of God,” it sends a clear message to believers that their patronage is no longer desired.

I know I said it already and their response was certainly not unexpected, but WTF?
