New York City Pays Woman $29,000 For Going Topless

topless bikerJill Coccaro, 27, was arrested in 2005 for walking around in public topless in New York City. She was held in custody for 12 hours before prosecutors decided not to press charges. Why? Because in 1992 a New York appeals court ruled that woman had as much right to go topless in public as men.

Ms. Coccaro sued the city for false arrest and was just awarded a $29,000 settlement. She said, “I’ve always just felt that was something natural. I’ve kind of always done it out of practicality.”

Women and men both have breasts but a woman’s are typically more developed, although some men have large breasts too, and… well, let’s not go there. So, other than old-fashioned public morality issues, I can’t think of any reason why women should not be allowed to go topless in areas where men are permitted to do so. What do you think?

Quick Poll:

On the same topic, should men be allowed to walk around in public with hardons?

Edit: Of the 1,536 votes cast to this point, 1,428 want to see topless women in public.

I walk around with a hard on all the time. Actually, I have to find that 800 number you are supposed to call if you have an erection for more than 4 hours

Is it a woman’s right to go topless or a man’s right to see topless women?

Is that another law I’m breaking? It was really bad about a year ago when I switched from briefs to boxers. Not being used to that much freedom of movement, I had to go through a desensitization period. If having a hard-on is illegal, isn’t that like having thought police?

Morality, thats such a moronically subjective term. Im tired of everyone being told they have to adhere to uppity religious whiners definitions of morality.

Actually it is being covered what makes something attractive. If enough women start walking around topless it would quickly cease to be interesting. You would notice their breasts but not in a sexual way. If they put a nice top on, the breasts would be hidden and be ’sexualized’ again. Just like a woman in a skirt and eye-catching top is far more sensual and alluring than the same woman in a bikini.

Being hidden makes it special. Unhide it and it’s no longer special.

Carl, although I agree that if every woman in the U.S. walked around topless we would probably become desensitized, hopefully only the good looking women will do it and not most of them, in which case, it would still work nicely for me.

As for a woman being sexier in a skirt and top than a bikini, I can’t say I agree with you on that one.

“only the good-looking ones”?
Women have had to put up with seeing hairy flabby old man boobs for a long time now. Men shouldn’t just get to see the pretty ones.

True, Terrie, and I’m sure that when they pass a law making it legal for women to go topless in public, the vast majority will be hairy flabby ones.

The really great thing about women walking around topless is watching all the uptight blue-noses getting upset about it! Not to mention the muslims getting their rags in a wedgie over it…. What a lovely thought!

Actually your conclusion “Of the 1,536 votes cast to this point, 1,428 want to see topless women in public.” cannot be inferred from the poll. The poll does not ask whether the voter wants to see topless women, it asks whether they should have the same rights as men. This is not the same thing. I voted “yes” because I wnat to see the rule that applies to women to also apply to men - i.e men should not go around topless.

Disgusting. Men AND women should cover up when they’re in public. You didn’t leave an option for that.

It depends on the woman real.

Let the hot ones go topless and keep the fuglies locked indoors.

I think Seinfeld has a point here. Think of the potential rise in car accidents.

And the drop in validity of woman driver jokes. :*(

Hey Carl,
No it wouldn’t.

I agree with carl. when you do something or see something day in and day out, it quickly becomes less interesting.

think of it as eating the same cereal for a month straight, and that was the only thing that you could have. you’d soon get sick of it and not want to eat it for a long time.

now boobs, are different, but the same concept applies.

as well. anne has a good point on this topic.

I’ve been married for 30 years and have seen my wife’s tits just about every day at least once and I still find them just as exciting as I did the day I first saw them. I’ve also looked at porn a lot since I was a teenager and I still think tits are interesting. Why would I all of a sudden find them uninteresting just because women started going around topless in public?
