Rape Fantasy vs Reality: Opinion Poll
Most of us will agree that rape is a very serious and offensive crime, but how many of you find this photo of a fantasy pirate rape, stimulating?

In most cases, rape is a crime of violence and has nothing to do with sex, although it seems that ‘date rape’ is being reported more often lately. In those cases, the man typically knows the woman. Many times drugs and alcohol are involved, causing the man to go farther than he should or normally would, but since the woman did not consent, it’s still considered rape and can still be traumatic and psychologically damaging to the woman.
I recently had a discussion with some people about the Robert Zicari (aka Rob Black) case, in which Zicari and his wife were charged with distributing ‘extreme’ pornographic content, including videos depicting ’simulated’ rape. Even though most of us find rape abhorrent, many people still have rape fantasies, so my question was, just what kind of person could watch a rape scene in a movie and find it sexually stimulating? Can a ‘normal’ person have rape fantasies and possibly enjoy acting them out with their sexual partner? At what point does a woman go from being stimulated by the idea of rape to being frightened or disgusted by it? If a man becomes aroused while watching Jodie Foster being raped in The Accused, is he sick or is he simply responding to the fantasy of the scene and not the reality?
I’m sure many women would find a dream where Brad Pitt is a swashbuckling pirate that has his way with them after they half heartedly attempt to fight him off, sexually stimulating, and most psychologists tell us fantasies like that are perfectly normal. So, if it’s okay to be sexually excited by the ‘idea’ of rape, at what point does one draw the line? For example, if you were walking through a secluded location one night and witnessed a rape taking place, what would you do?

People respond based on how they associate the empirical data they pick up (what they see, hear, etc.). For example the scene above offends me considerably because I know pirates don’t dress like that. These people look more like barbarians.
Other than that the two people involved seem attractive and consenting, but I have this thing about sex: if I’m not actively involved, it doesn’t do a lot for me. I might get aroused, but I have a good imagination, what do I need porn for? But if I’m going to go through the motions, why not share?
I remember reading some psychological studies done with kids and video games stating that kids could distinguish from reality and fantasy. I believe the same is true with adults and sexual fantasy. We can distinguish between fantasy and reality.
The word rape by itself doesn’t convey the entire concept behind the word. In most cases the term is used to describe forced sex upon an individual, so will generally evoke negative responses in people.
But the same term can be used in a different context to describe a specific sexual fantasy between two people that care (at least superficially) about each other. In this case, rape is really being used as if it were a different word because it conveys a different meaning. It just happens to look and sound identical to the first concept.

speaking only from my own experience and the effect it had on my cumulative sexual attitudes, i believe that rape, given that its sole intention is not inflicting physical injury to the victim, in itself,, is lack luster… however, in sexual role playing the idea of “fuck me like you hate me”… is very titillating indeed….

I dislike even simulated rape sites. Not what I consider a health sexual fantasy. My first wife had this fantasy of being tied up, blind folded, and liked to role play rape. She ended up screwing other guys all the time and we got a divorce.

I think there are a few different fantasies that get lumped together here.
One involves being dominated by someone you trust. An other is the fantasy of simply being dominated. That can easily lead to some negative results like Pumpman describes unless both people are into the same kind of thing.
The important difference is whether those involved focus on their partner or the actions.

Hammer, you should include the option, “I would rape the rapist,” for your survey.

Maybe that’s why so many are saying they would attack the rapist. Perhaps they don’t mean to stop him.

Good point Pumpman, but maybe your judgment is clouded by the divorce. Did you enjoy the role playing until she started sleeping around?

54 votes so far and 55% or about 30 have responded that they would attempt to stop the rapist. Bravo. I’m surprised at that percentage actually, but then again, it’s easy to be brave on paper.

I loved my exwife but I did not wish to participate in her tie me up and spank me like a whore role playing game. We had some really good sex in other ways,.. She could squirt, and she taught me how to lick pussy like a pro…We ended up in divorce right after I found out she let all those sailors cum insider her while she was cheating on me…..
My message: Rape, even simulated is bad… umkay kids.

Pumpman, it sounds like you’re talking about bondage and S&M, not rape fantasies.

i’ll admit to getting turned on while watching jodie foster squirming on top of the pinball machine. just thinking about it makes me want to rub one out. but mind you, no one was injured during the making of this fantasy. and i have no desire to actually rape anyone.
if you could be prosecuted and jailed for your fantasies, would there be anyone left on the outside?

ok as a big fan of pirates i can tell you that this is not a rape scene at all… in fact in this sex scene Capt. Victor Stagnetti is the one being “raped” by Angelina

While I think that real rape is a horrible crime that should never go unpunished, fantasy rape when between two consenting adults is role play alone. I have not seen the Jodie Foster movie but she is a hot looking woman and watching her come out of her cloths would be stimulating to me! She did not feel the scene was wrong or she would have refused to do the movie. Adult movies with rape as a theme should be allowed as no harm comes to either participant.

(I just spent a while writing something and got an error so this is the short version). I’m a woman and fantasy rape turns me on. Real life rape never would (either seeing someone else or it happening to myself). After thinking about it alot throughout relationships, I basically figured out that it’s caused from an upbringing that lead me to believe that sex was a sinful, wrong thing; especially for women. In rape porn, and porn where women seem like they aren’t enjoying it, the women don’t come off as whores to me. Rape ones take it a step farther in that the woman definitely didn’t have a choice so she is not doing anything “wrong.” It sucks because I don’t personally hold the beliefs my parents hold and haven’t for a while so I don’t believe that sex is wrong. But I can’t get that to go away, though I really wish I could. I regret growing up in a Christian household because of this.
Moral: Don’t condemn sex as something evil and dirty. It isn’t and… btw, the only thing I ever read in the bible that condemned sex before marriage was on the basis that if you have sex with someone and marry someone else later in life you basically committed adultery. Stop scaring your kids for life.

This isn’t a pirate rape scene. My girlfriend bought this movie for us. It’s a porno spoof on the Disney Pirates film. Right off the bat the writer is generating a biased standpoint. If you watch the movie, the woman bending over initiated the sex. Since when is doggy style considered rape? My girlfriend bends over all the time…doesn’t mean I’m raping her.

In response to those of you that need to micro analyze everything, at no point did I say that the scene from the movie was a rape scene. I used the photo because it looks like forced sex (aka rape) without showing an actual rape. You people do realize it’s illegal to show pictures of actual rape, right?
Apparently some of you missed the entire point of my article and if you hadn’t, you would realize that I was showing the photo to represent “fantasy rape”. Regardless of what is happening in the actual movie, the photo shows an image that represents a very common female rape fantasy.
If you don’t agree with my point of view in the article, feel free to argue your point, but obfuscating the point by nitpicking the photo is pointless.

Hammer, the photo shows an image of a sexual position used every day in consensual sex between people all over the world. There is nothing about rear-entry sex that represents a rape fantasy any more or less then any other position. He’s not holding her arms, incapacitating her ability to resist or escape, he doesn’t have her tied, no one else is holding her. You’re entering the realm of writing fallacy.
