Some People Haven’t Got the Stomach for Heroin Smuggling

Here’s a tip for all you drug mules out there. If you suffer from motion sickness on planes, don’t carry the drugs in baggies that you’ve swallowed. Puking up a plastic bag filled with white powder on a plane tends to look a bit suspicious and really is difficult to explain.

Vietnam Airlines passenger Nguyen Kant fell ill on a flight from Viet Nam to Australia, when it appeared that something he ate disagreed with him. Airline personnel suspected that the bag of white powder he vomited up was heroin. The plane turned back for Vietnam, making an emergency landing at Tan Son Nhat Airport, where he coughed up two more bags. Doctors later reported that they’d found 30 more bags in the man’s stomach.

It’s unlikely that Mr. Kant will have the chance to try this again in the future. Several people have been arrested for trafficking heroin from Viet Nam to Australia recently, and at least four of them were sentenced to death. It’s a shame really, because I’m sure Nguyen just needed more practice.
