According to Wikipedia, “A subliminal message is a signal or message embedded in another object, designed to pass below the normal limits of perception. These messages are indiscernible to the conscious mind, but are alleged to be perceptible to the subconscious or deeper mind.”

Subliminal messages were first tested around 1900 and have been used periodically in advertising since the early 1950’s. Countless scientific studies have been done to conclude whether it actually works or not and most of the evidence seems to indicate that it can be effective in some situations.

Scientists in the UK have been researching subliminal advertising for years and have just released their findings, concluding that the technique does work. Ironically, subliminal advertising has been banned in the UK.

In the movie Fight Club, a movie theater projectionist inserts a single pornographic frame into every 24th frame of a film that leaves the movie goers feeling depressed or aggressive afterwards. In reality I’m sure it would have made them horny, but I guess they were all Jesus freaks.

Years ago it was rumored that if you played Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven backwards it contained satanic messages and using the same technique with the Beatles Revolution 9 provided clues that indicated that Paul McCartney was dead. Phonograph needle manufacturers found those subliminal messages particularly good for sales.
