What’s Wrong with Sexy Halloween Costumes?
I was watching The O’Reilly Factor last night — don’t ask me why — and Bill was slamming Target for selling sexy Halloween costumes to children. He said it was highly inappropriate for young girls of 8 to 9 years of age to be wearing sexy costumes.
I agree with his general statement, but here are two things that were driving me nuts while I was listening to him ‘bloviate’ about the issue.
One: The women in the photos on the packages appeared to be at least 18 and the costumes were obviously intended to be worn by adults or older teens.
Two: His supposition was that by wearing sexy costumes young girls are making themselves even more attractive to sexual predators. Bill, you’re wrong. Pedophiles like young girls, not mature women, so if you take an 8 year old girl and make her look like a sexy grownup woman, she is no longer attractive to him on the sick and twisted level he’s interested in. Why do you think porn sites take 18 year olds and put them in pigtails and plaid school skirts? To make them look like young girls and not like mature women.
Apparently Target folded and removed the costumes from their shelves, so once again, we’ve taken away an adult’s rights for the sake of children in a misguided attempt to protect them. Why can’t adults buy sexy Halloween costumes to wear to adult Halloween parties?
I have two girls and believe me, I’m all for protecting children, but it’s my job, not yours. I appreciate all the help I can get, but I’m sure not going to deprive you of the right to wear a sexy costume if you want. What I am going to do is not buy them for my daughters, even if they do come in children’s sizes that would actually fit an 8 year old in the first place.

I just love it when someone else makes my decisions for me AND raises my child. Thanks, Bill O’Reilly, but I’d appreciate it if you’d crawl back into your hole and let me think for myself and raise my own kid. I’m sure my method works much better.

No Spin Bill may have a point, but it’s not the one he stated. Dressing up to make you look older is what every kid does. That’s not gona change. Point is about our choices as parents.
