I’m glad you popped up on my blog. I’ve been meaning to add you to my blogroll so I can keep in touch. We ‘bloggy 10s’ have to stick together!

Actually, a period is missing, not a comma. If a comma was placed between “sucks” and “Dick,” it would be a comma splice error. They are two complete sentences. Learn English before you start making jokes about it… Jackass.

Man ‘Cheney does too’ isnt a sentence by itself. George Bush sucks dick. Cheney does too. What does cheney do? A comma is necessary. OMFG LAWL HE SAID DICK

Well Bill, I know Engrish pretty well, but you seem to have missed the point. I was not giving a grammar lesson, but simply pointing out how funny the sentence is when not properly punctuated.

To avoid further obfuscation of the intended point of the post, I will change the title from “Why Commas Are Important” to “Why Punctuation is Important”.

BTW. No matter what form of punctuation should be placed between ’sucks’ and ‘Dick’, it’s still funnier without it.

Actually, Cheney does too IS a full sentence. That is, if you add a comma:

“Bush sucks dick. Cheney does, too.”

Or:

“Bush sucks. Dick Cheney does, too.”

That’s too funny. I love Bill Maher even though I’m right wing ;)

From Bill
“Learn English before you start making jokes about it… Jackass.”

LOL, make sure you’re right before you go correcting someone. Heh, who’s the jackass now?

Maybe George Bush Sucks Dick.

Cheney Does To.

You could put the period after dick. But for me, usually after dick I use mouthwash.

That can’t be real, why is Maher there?

Comment from Hammer

Would I put anything on my blog that wasn’t real? ;)

Why couldn’t Bill Maher be interviewed by Fox News Live? I’m sure they’d jump at the chance.

Or you could put a semi-colon, i think thats what they meant to forget

George Bush sucks; Dick Cheney does too.

Comment from Jack
Time: December 29, 2007, 5:44 pm

Yeah, it’s a semi-colon - or perhaps a dash. Definitely funnier without though.

Comment from Chad
Time: December 30, 2007, 2:23 am

Wait a minute, aren’t semicolons used for complete-incomplete sentence combinations? It think a colon would be more appropriate in this situation.

Comment from Kris
Time: December 30, 2007, 12:19 pm

Chad,
No, a semicolon is used to divide two independent statements. I believe it’s also meant to divide two related statements..

Why is it that whenever someone post something just for the humor you get all these clowns that miss the point completely and have to start picking it a part? Maybe that is what happens when a person spends 24/7 in front of a computer because they have no life, or is it because their self esteem is so low they have to make themselves appear superior instead of inferior. Lighten up—it’s funny no matter what punctuation is missing!

Comment from Shado

It IS funny.
It’s also funny when someone tries to be smart, but doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

At the bottom, it says this picture was created as parody entertainment.
You all fail.

Actually Fingel, you lose, because that fact was already pointed out a couple of times now.

whoever the genius is that thinks this was on fox news should go back to 4th grade. that was on bill maher’s show, do you think they would even write “george bush sucks” on the headlines of fox news. think through things. it was a spoof on bill maher’s show.

Comment from Hammer
Time: February 18, 2008, 7:46 pm

Jack: Actually it wasn’t a spoof on the Bill Maher show, I created the whole thing. It’s a combination of a graphic from Fox, a graphic from the Bill Maher show and a quote I added myself.

Comment from TheGabe

Actually the missing punctuation is a semi-colon (;).
And obfuscation means using jargon to hide the real meaning of something.
And “all those clowns” are called pedants. It’s a hobby, so get over yourself.

Comment from Shelly
Time: May 16, 2008, 12:02 am

Thank you TheGabe I was just going to say semi-colon myself.

Seriously people I learned about complete sentences in 3rd grade, it’s not a complete statement unless it makes sense with ‘I believe that’ in front of it
“I believe that George Bush sucks; Dick Cheney does too” would be a complete sentence “I believe that Dick Cheney does too” makes no sense at all, therefore it cannot stand alone.

Third grade information people.
